Between the Ardennes and the Aisne...

In an area of nature and picturesque French villages,...

...There lies Gite Mainbresson, a 170-year-old and stylishly renovated former French farmhouse. Located right next to the small church as pictured here, it offers a perfect vacation or weekend stay for a group of up to 10 people (8 adults and 2 children). You can enjoy the vast surroundings with hills and absolute tranquility.

There is plenty to do in the area, whether you're a culture lover, a sports enthusiast, or a family who enjoys nature and tranquility. However, it's essential to have a car as the stores are several kilometers away....

Right from our location you can enjoy hiking and biking (many opportunities for mountain bikers and road cyclists).

French Ardennes

When most people think of the Ardennes, they usually associate it with Belgium and Luxembourg. However, just across the French border lies the Ardennes department, which encompasses the foothills of the Ardennes nature reserve where the Meuse River meanders. The French part of the Ardennes is predominantly covered in forests, providing a habitat for a diverse range of wildlife. Here, you can witness wild boars digging up entire verges in search of food, birds of prey soaring high in the sky, eagerly hunting for prey in the fields below, or a graceful roe deer grazing at the edge of the forest, bathed in the warm glow of the evening sun. Due to its natural beauty and abundance of wildlife, a significant portion of this area has been designated as the Parc Régional des Ardennes nature park. Mainbresson is conveniently located within walking distance of this nature reserve.

Enjoy nature

Looking for a walking or cycling vacation near the Netherlands? Whether it's just a few days or a whole week, this beautiful region offers endless opportunities to immerse yourself in nature and tranquility. The French Ardennes boasts a more pristine natural environment compared to its Belgian counterpart, ensuring a peaceful escape from mass tourism. With a high chance of encountering deer, birds of prey, pheasants, foxes, and even otters, nature enthusiasts will be in for a treat. Embrace the serenity and, during the night, indulge in stargazing with our telescope. Unlike the light pollution in the Netherlands, here you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the stars and planets.

Aisne....the castle churches of Thierache

Mainbresson borders directly on the Thierache region in the department of Aisne, where the most beautiful castle churches can be found, for example that of the nearby Parfondeval. It is traditionally an area where many battles were fought. The fortified churches in the area are a reminder of this. The area is undulating and divided into various color fields: the fresh green of the meadows, the bright yellow fields of rapeseed, the golden yellow fields of grain and the dark green groves. Cattle are in the pasture with their calves and above them flies the buzzard. A few kilometers from Mainbresson is the beautiful and interesting church of Parfondeval (see video). By the way, the region also has more than fifty(!) water mills. The fortified churches route is divided into 4 different circuits. The route can be followed by means of the special signs along the route or by a map available at the tourist offices.
