Between the Ardennes and the Aisne...

In an area of nature and picturesque French villages,...

...There lies Gite Mainbresson, a 170-year-old and stylishly renovated former French farmhouse. Located right next to the small church as pictured here, it offers a perfect vacation or weekend stay for a group of up to 10 people (8 adults and 2 children). You can enjoy the vast surroundings with hills and absolute tranquility.

There is plenty to do in the area, whether you're a culture lover, a sports enthusiast, or a family who enjoys nature and tranquility. However, it's essential to have a car as the stores are several kilometers away....

Right from our location you can enjoy hiking and biking (many opportunities for mountain bikers and road cyclists).

French Ardennes

When most people think of the Ardennes, they usually associate it with Belgium and Luxembourg. However, just across the French border lies the Ardennes department, which encompasses the foothills of the Ardennes nature reserve where the Meuse river meanders. The French part of the Ardennes is predominantly covered in forests, providing a habitat for a diverse range of wildlife. Here, you can witness wild boars digging up entire verges in search of food, birds of prey soaring high in the sky, eagerly hunting for prey in the fields below, or a graceful roe deer grazing at the edge of the forest, bathed in the warm glow of the evening sun. Due to its natural beauty and abundance of wildlife, a significant portion of this area has been designated as the Parc Regional des Ardennes nature park. Mainbresson is conveniently located within walking distance of this nature reserve.

Enjoy nature

Looking for a walking or cycling vacation near the Netherlands? Whether it's just a few days or a whole week, this beautiful region offers endless opportunities to immerse yourself in nature and tranquility. The French Ardennes boasts a more pristine natural environment compared to its Belgian counterpart, ensuring a peaceful escape from mass tourism. With a high chance of encountering deer, birds of prey, pheasants, foxes, and even otters, nature enthusiasts will be in for a treat. Embrace the serenity and, during the night, indulge in stargazing with our telescope. Unlike the light pollution in the Netherlands, here you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the stars and planets.

Aisne....the castle churches of Thierache

Mainbresson is located on the border of the Thierache region in the Aisne department, where you can find the most beautiful castle churches. This area has a rich history of battles, which is evident in the fortified churches that still stand today. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills and fields of vibrant colors: lush green meadows, bright yellow rapeseed fields, golden yellow grain fields, and dark green groves. Cows graze peacefully with their calves, while buzzards soar above them. Just a few kilometers from Mainbresson, you'll find the stunning and captivating church of Parfondeval (check out the video!). Interestingly, the region is also home to over fifty water mills. The fortified churches route is divided into four different circuits, which can be easily followed using the special signs along the way or with a map available at the tourist offices.
